Revlon® ColorStay™ - A Tragic Love Story

Hi everyone!
This time I'm not going to recommend you any product and just share with you my big disappointment from the new formula of Revlon ColorStay™ foundation. I've used this foundation for about five years or even more and I absolutely adored it. It became so famous and many women around the world enjoyed using this product. I saw many beauty gurus on YouTube talking about this foundation a lot. The only thing that people disliked about this foundation is that it doesn't have a pump. It used to come with just a glass pour bottle which has its own limitations; you have to deep your finger in and contaminate the product every day. So finally Revlon have listened to all of her fans and included a pump. The problem is that it's not the only change in the product and they actually have changed the whole formula. OH NO! I have to say that it's not the same product anymore, it's completely different now. Why do I say that? Let's see...
That's how the original bottle looks...
That's how it looks now...
"Revlon have listened to all of her fans and included a pump".
This product is came out with two different versions; the first for dry to normal skin and the second for combination to oily skin. I have combination skin with very oily T-zone so I picked up the second version. The first difference that I mention between these two formulas is the SPF range. The original formula has SPF6 and the new one has SPF15. As you know, as much as the product has more SPF in it, the product gets more light constancy. I loved the thickness of the original formula cause it allowed me to get a full coverage with semi-matte finish, now I can't get this look. The constancy was changed due to the changes in SPF. It has more natural finish now and it seems to be like many other drugstore foundations that I tried. The product loosed his main quality. His semi-matte finish was something which everybody loved in this foundation and now it's not there anymore. The new formula is more buildable than the original and it sets not so quickly as the original formula which allows you to work with the product. It's actually the only good thing that I can say about it. Even with a quick look into the ingredients of the product you can see that it's completely changed...
Original Formula Ingredients
New Formula Ingredients
The new formula has more silicons in it, which is awful. You can see that the first ingredient in the old formula is WATER and the first ingredient in the new formula is CYCLOPENTASILOXANE which is sort of silicone. I have sensitivity to silicone and it causes me to break outs and irritation. It also has other silicone components in it like SILICA and TRIETHOXYCAPRYLYLSILANE. The original formula has also silicon components in it but in different concentration. The best proof to it is that the original formula didn't cause me to pimples and even helps me to control my acne. Another component which I disliked to see in the new formula is PHENOXYETHANOL which is also used in insecticides (disgusting) and it can be even toxic if you use it in big amounts (think that we're using makeup every single day). They also add a SALICYLIC ACID to the new formula, and I ask WHY? This is not supposed to be a treatment product so why to do this? It's just a cosmetic product. If I want to put SALICYLIC ACID on my face I'll use a toner or a soap, not a foundation!!! The new formula also has many moisturizing components like SILICA DIMETHYL SILYLATE and DIPROPYLENE GLYCOL which explains the fact that my face looks really oily after a hour with the new formula and in the pictures.

In conclusion, I HATE the new formula of Revlon ColorStay™ foundation and I won't repurchase it again. I thing it's such a shame that they changed so successful product and just ruined it. These days I'm searching for a good replacement to the ColorStay™ and I think that I'm going to try the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation. Many people said that the Estee Lauder Double Wear is a dupe to the ColorStay™ and I'm going to check this out. If you have a good replacement to this foundation I'll glad to hear about it. Also, if you have any questions about this issue, feel free to leave me a comment... Thank you for reading and I'll see you in the next post! (:

    1. Hi Anonymous,
Unfortunately I'm already throwed the old version bottle away, so I don't sure about it...

  3. I agree with you, I totally don't like the new formula. It felt even thicker on my skin and its so much more flashy in pictures. I hate it, wish they could've just included a pump without changing anything with formula.

  6. I knew it! I knew something was terribly off about the pump bottle formula! It literally makes my right eye tear! I have worn it for years and simply adding a pump messes it up!? Come on Revlon!!
